Same problem, Fresh install, ran as admin. Get to the MC install button, click install, flashes "Hold tight, getting minecraft ready for you" then goes back to the install button. Doesn't install, doesn't do anything. Win 8.1
Possibly necroposting, but I had this issue today. Since no one else addressed it, go to your settings and to the minecraft tab (as shown in another post here) and select "change folder" to redirect the install location to program files x86/Minecraft. worked just fine for me after that. I had to do it in settings instead of the mods/minecraft page, it wouldn't actually change the folder otherwise.
nighamte I had a similar issue. Turns out when it installed Twitch desktop app, the directory it installed under contained a '-' character like 'C:\Users\user-pc\Twitch' and that resulted in the install directory being invalid for Minecraft to be installed. Not sure if that might be the issue for you, so try installing the Twitch app in a different directory with plain alphanumeric characters and see if that fixes it.
Still hoping people are still active on this, but most recommendations haven’t worked. I finally figured out how to install minecraft by creating a twitch folder under the C/ disk, but now minecraft won’t work when I try to play an instance. It gives me this error message:
Failed to download file, the file contents differ from what was expected.
Ok, so im trying to use the RlCraft mod. I don't know if anyone is still active on here. I downloaded twitch today and I have the Minecraft launcher. when I go into twitch, I go to mods, and then click Minecraft. It tells me "let's play Minecraft! it looks like we're missing a few pieces, click the button below to get started." at this point, I do so and it loads for a miniscule amount of time and then nothing happens and the same screen is still there. I have no idea what to try.
Dots may also cause twitch to not recognize minecraft folder. Downloaded minecraft straight into path twitch was suggesting- which does not contain dots and it works now for me.
I replaced the Minecraft launcher in the twitch folder. For some reason the default launcher in that folder wouldn't run, so I replaced it with the non-twitch Minecraft launcher. Works fine now.
(C:)\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft Launcher
Copy launcher from here named MinecraftLauncher
C:\Users\(your user name)\Twitch\Minecraft\Install
Delete launcher in here, paste MinecraftLauncher, and rename it Minecraft
Nothing here is working for me either. I have a brand new fresh install of Windows 10. I've ran updates, I have the latest Geforce Drivers and I have even changed the install path of Twitch AND Minecraft both from the Twitch client and I still get nothing. Here's a video with an example of what I'm dealing with.
Sorry I forgot to mention, it is being run as admin. I found a small potential fix, I simply changed it from native launcher to jar launcher but I still don't understand why this is happening. Just a week ago it was working with the native launcher.
i had the same problom yesterday off me writing it but if it keeps just saying install it's because twitch does install it at where you have selected that it should install
it is in (where you have installed it)Twitch\Minecraft\Install
the "minecraft.exe" file in the folder is corroupt
you can delete that and replace it with a copy of the Minecraft launcher just remember to rename it to "minecraft.exe"
ps. if you have any questions i will be here the next few days to try and help others with the problome
My Windows 10 install with a new download of twitch was hanging on install too. I had to change it from Native launcher to Jar launcher to get past that. See if It works now, It says installed, and I'm install a modpack.
This worked for me as well. Note that the word minecraft has to be with NO capital letter. Basically i had to have it create the files using the jar version. switch back to the native version and replace the exe with the new launcher application. Thanks for the advice!

After I get this message, I try to play the instance again, but then minecraft crashes. If anyone has figured this out I would be crazy grateful.
