You can make custom GUI with slots

There are lot of programs you can use to create your mod like Eclipse. It won't write code for you, but you won't be limited to few options and you can always check minecraft source code here.
Eclipse or IntelliJ (both are good but I prefer eclipse)
You will also need the JavaJDK and an mdk version of Forge to build your project.
i recommend you use mcreator and then manually edit the code of the mod to add the things it does not let you do normally

It's much better create it yourself, mcreator code is pretty bad. Following your method you will lose all advantages of other IDEs
Ecplise, it's really easy.... sorta. Here's a tutorial guide I've been following along with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmWBP5ifDlw

That's the same tutorial I watched. Doesn't really teach you what everything does though, you can only write after him and try to figure it out yourself.

Well yes, but he does teach you the basics, and for me at least it's pretty easy to expand on.
