It would be so much easier to make things and I would be able to use less space with redstone.
You power a Redstone Transmitter, where you choose a frequency.
Afterwards, you connect whatever you need to power to a Redstone Receiver. If it has the same frequency as an active Redstone Transmitter, it will emit a redstone signal.

sorry for the late reply, but yes. they didn't update it to 1.12 though.
surprised to see it's still being updated though. i thought it was only for 1.8
