So I was going to play some forever stranded with a friend until this error message popped up. I've uninstalled Java 9 and have installed Java 8 yet the same message appears.
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Ignoring option PermSize; support was removed in 8.0Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Ignoring option PermSize; support was removed in 8.0Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: java.base/jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader cannot be cast to java.base/java.net.URLClassLoader at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.<init>(Launch.java:34) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:28)
Java 8 removed the PermSize feature, so if you have it set in your launch options, this warning will pop up, you can remove the PermSize safely and it should all launch correctly, assuming it's not launching already.
when I try to play any modpact from the twitch desktop app it stil keeps popping up, could someone please help me on how to delete or erase the permsize ?
this is what the pop up says
"Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Ignoring option PermSize; support was removed in 8.0Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Ignoring option PermSize; support was removed in 8.0Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: java.base/jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader cannot be cast to java.base/java.net.URLClassLoader at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.<init>(Launch.java:34) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:28)"

Seems like your the best guy for me to ask but its now got a different message when i get rid of the perm size.
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: class jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader cannot be cast to class java.net.URLClassLoader (jdk.internal.loader.ClassLoaders$AppClassLoader and java.net.URLClassLoader are in module java.base of loader 'bootstrap') at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.<init>(Launch.java:34) at net.minecraft.launchwrapper.Launch.main(Launch.java:28)
Hi I had this same issue and I was flipping out trying to figure out why it kept giving that error. I'm running SevTech: Ages 3.1.1 and the problem for me was that I was using Java 11 and it seems that these modpack servers are incompatible with every other Java Version that's not Java 8.
I've tried uninstalling my Java to get Java 8 but that hadn't worked either. Im not sure what to do now. Thanks for the help though. It also comes up with the permsize log as well and its annoying as it always use to work.
