I recommend putting in some effort and making your own pack if you play in single-player. I am playing on my own custom pack with 33 mods, but the only real big mods are only BC with ABO and IC2. Other mods are for deco, boats, flying machines, weapons, logging, crafting etc. I really enjoy it, I have customized the game to be exactly what I want it to be. I really haven't found any modpacks that I would like to use, because all of them include something that I don't like. While my own pack fits perfectly for me and a few friends I play with. Everyone likes different aspects of the game and really making your own pack is the best way to go. Everybody has different ideas of what is balanced. Find your favorite mods and get minetweaker to make them work together. So after a bit of work you will have your own perfect pack. Perhaps you can even start your own unique server ;)
I liked the idea so much, I decided to post it here, since the odds of a modder starting to work on it are much more likely that the official minecraft team adding the idea.
The idea is to make the player be able to have dreams while sleeping that can benefit or harm the player based on random and player controlled actions. This would really make clicking on your bed something much more interesting rather than just skipping the night.
I'm hoping people like this and give their share of thoughts to make it perfect, heres my idea how it could work:
When going to sleep there is a 1/5 chance of having a dream(could also be based on other factors like hunger, time since last sleep etc). And then another 1/2 chance of it being either a nightmare or a good dream. With the item dreamcatcher near the bed the odds of having a good dream will be 3/4 instead. In the dream the player will spawn in another dimesion based on the world seed. Good dream overworld, bad dream nether. In the dreams there would be a task list and when finishing it, the player will wake up. Finishing the good dream can give the player items. Finishing a bad dream will spawn you next to your bed hungry and low health. Bad dreams can also trigger the sleepwalking effect, which makes you wake up in a different location(not too far). When you die in a good dream, you will just wake up hungry. When you die in a bad dream, you will actually die and you will spawn at worldspawn. There should also be a way to skip the dream, for example by sleeping in the dream. Then in a good dream you will wake up as usual, with no bonus item. In a bad dream you will wake at worldspawn hungry. So there would actually be reason to complete the dream. There could also be another item that makes the odds of having a dream 0, so you could play as usual. This could for sure work in singleplayer and I think it could be possible even in multiplayer. The player having a dream is simply in another dimension. Sleeping then would have no effect on the time. Only when all palyers in the server go to sleep, it would skip the night and players could still have dreams, just they could wake up at any time, depending when they finish their task/skip/die in a dream. There would be many different dreams and in the dreams also random events occur, which can change the good dream to a bad one and vice versa. For example in a good dream a wither could spawn and if you kill it you will wake up with a wither skull. If it defeats you, you it takes you to a bad dream. In a bad dream a cow could spawn and if you manage to lure it to safety and feed it there, you will continue in a good dream.
I personally find manual crafting as it is, much more annoying, more click intensive and time consuming than a proper auto-crafting set-up. In IC2 you already spend like 60-70% of your time at a crafting table early game. Making manual crafting even slower, would make it extremely tedious. There are already plenty limits like inventory size, stack size. While you can make insane auto-crafting machines that have no limits in how much they can craft at a time and you can make them pretty fast also. But even if you don't have all the gear to make those crazy machines, you can still set-up you slower, limited auto-crafter and do something else while it's crafting. So I see many advantages over manual crafting as it is already. Making it slower, would not have too much impact on late game. Would make early-game a lot slower(and tedious imo) And would make people need to focus on making different auto-crafters rather than building anything else. But it's just my opinion. If you want to play this way, go ahead! ;) This is the best thing about minecraft. You can make it exactly how you want it to be(almost :P) :)
We all use chunk loaders for our miners, pipe systems, iron farms, villager breeders, redstone etc. But what about farms that require random update ticks? Like plants growing, mobs spawing and chicken laying eggs? The solution would be(if possible) to make a block that imitates a player being present. If somebody is able to do that, it would be greatly appreciated. I hate to leave my computer on, just so my wheat and tree farms would generate something. Instead I would like it if they would work all the time while playing, like my other machines. Hope this is possible.
ummm? What? Worst idea ever. It already takes hours to craft all the necessary stuff for any proper build. But if you feel like spending 95% of your time at a crafting table, then go ahead :P Auto-crafting tables are meant for automated crafting. Which is more a late game thing. In my survival world which I have played for around 3 years, I have quite a few machines, that you just put in raw materials and it makes you items, which have long and difficult crafting trees. I never used an auto crafting table for manual crafting. Seems very useless. I almost always need them as parts of bigger automated machines, like sorting systems, smelters, farms.
So I am using chicken chunks chunk loaders, which keep all my quarries, miners, villager breeders, power sources, redstone etc running at all times. Which is great. But wheat doesn't grow and mobs don't spawn in those loaded chunks unless a player is actually there. Which is kinda annoying because my main source of emeralds is my wheat and sugarcane farms and also my rubber farm works with trees growing. Interesting thing is a quote from chicken chunks description: "This mod adds a block called a chunkloader, when placed it will keep chunks around it loaded even if no players are nearby or even online. So now your plants can grow and your automatic quarries can run, even when you're not around." Also when you read the minecraft wiki about spawn chunks it clearly states that random game ticks don't happen in loaded chunks unless a player is there so naturally wheat can't grow and mobs will despawn if no player is near. So giving the description of the mod I would assume that it somehow simulates a player being there? But it clearly isn't the case, because mob and plant farms don't work. So is there a way to actually get it to work? Does anybody know`? I am playing on 1.7.10
So I took Mumbos elevator and pimped it out. I made it much more practical, more aesthetically pleasing and safer while keeping the size pretty much unchanged!. I also explain how to make it work after the 1.9 update. This is tested and working 100% on all versions from 1.7.10 - 1.12.2 (probably works on lower versions also, just have not tested myself) I'm pretty stoked on how good it came out and I wanted to share it. Check it out! Sorry about the bad audio, I made subtitles, so turn them on. Credits to Mumbo Jumbo for the base design. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9Og6G4MPFw

This is an awesome idea that I came across while browsing minecraft forums today. So I will not take full credit for the idea. Link to forums post: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/suggestions/2873442-dreams-that-commonly-occur-when-sleeping

Good thing I happened to read this. I always do my backups manually. Time to add a new mod. Thanks! :P

You can't. You either need to play it in 1.7.10, wait for a release for 1.12.2 or make it yourself for 1.12.2
There might be some mods, that are more universal, but usually mods only work for only one version.
