Yeah you can just not use the curseforge application and use something that works like MultiMC.

Manually download the pack from curseforge site and import using MultiMC. Works seamlessly.

To download the mods: where you’d normally click install from the curseforge site, just copy it’s URL and change the ‘y’at the end to ‘n’ and happy downloading.

posted a message on Mods/profiles wont install - system cannot find the file specified

    Hi All,

My CurseForge App absolutely will not install any new profiles for minecraft, nor will it install any mods, get an error every single time that the system cannot find the file specified.

    Steps I've taken

    • Removed all command line arguments in the Java launcher, didn't work.
    • Re-installed Java (jre-8u51-windows-x64), didn't work
    • Fresh new install of Curseforge and Minecraft (deleted everything to start again), re-installed minecraft and ran it at least once, didn't work.
    • Downloaded the Forge setup and manually installed (forge-1.16.4-35.1.0-installer) manually, didn't work.
    • Delete Twitch App and all directories, didn't work.
    • Checked no customised System Environment Variables are being used, didn't work.
    • Tested making a 'mods' folder within .minecraft folder - and ran minecraft from there, yet again CurseForge/Overwolf would gave the same error..

I've noticed that when I try to make a profile, it tries to make a new folder with the forge (see filepath screenshot) but seems to fail somehow.

At this stage I'm at an absolute loss, I've been at this for over an hour and can't find any solutions using this new CurseForge software.
