Nomadic Tents
Available for Minecraft 1.7.10 through 1.12.2!
"I want to explore the world, but all my stuff is at my house. What should I do?"
Answer: take your house with you! Build a Yurt, Tepee, Bedouin, or Indlu, set it up, take it down, and never worry about being too far from home again.
Tents come in 3 sizes: Small (5x5), Medium (7x7), and Large (9x9). Here's how you get started:
Step 1: make the tent
You have 3 options for your tent so far: Yurt, Tepee, or Bedouin. Each can be upgraded in size by crafting it with the previous recipe. Warning: Upgrading a tent causes it to lose items!
To build a Yurt, make Tent Canvas and Yurt Wall Pieces.
To build a Tepee, make Tepee Wall Pieces using 4 leather (or 6 rabbit hide)
To build a Bedouin, make Bedouin Wall Pieces using any wool:
Finally, to build an Indlu, make Indlu Wall Pieces using sticks and leaves:
** Note: Nomadic Tents for 1.8.x uses a recipe shaped like the tepee recipes. See Issue #3
Step 2: build the tent
First make a Tent Mallet. The tent is not going to construct itself!
Use the tent item to place frame blocks in the shape of your tent. Then hit each piece with the Tent Mallet to build. This will take about a minute in real-time, so don't wait until night falls to start!
The Super Tent Mallet can do this with just one click! The recipe uses enchanted golden apples or gold blocks, depending on the config.
Step 3: enjoy the tent!
When you finish building the tent, click on the door to enter (preferably with an empty hand).
What's this? My tent was 5x5 when I built it, but the inside is much bigger!
That is the magic of Nomadic Tents: Every tent is the same size on the outside (and takes the same amount of time to set up), but the inside can be luxurious and roomy! If you upgrade it, that is.
Yurt Outside:
Large Yurt Inside (fire included) :
Tepee Outside:
Large Tepee Inside:
Bedouin Outside:
Indlu Outside:
Step 4: move the tent
How useful is a house when it's stuck in one spot? Not very useful, which is why Nomadic Tents exists in the first place!
Simply use the Tent Mallet on the door to de-construct your tent. Set it up somewhere else and everything will still be inside.

FAQs:
Q: I was in my tent when my friend turned it into an item again. Am I stuck?
A: Nope. Clicking on the door to exit will pop you out exactly where you went in, whether or not a door is still there.
Q: Can I sleep in my tent to pass the night away?
A: With the latest versions of Nomadic Tents, yes!
Q: If I set my spawn point in my tent (ie, sleeping) will I respawn there whenever I die?
A: Only if you die while in a tent -- per-dimension respawns take priority
Q: I have an idea for a tent! Or maybe I found a bug. How do I let you know?
A: Post in the comments section at minecraft.curseforge.com so I can be notified. I'd love to hear your idea!
Configurations:
Open the config file to tweak this mod (NomadicTents.cfg in later releases, yurtmod.cfg in earlier releases)

A big thanks to chanicle for contributing the Yurt textures! If anyone has texture "fixes" or suggestions, PM me any time.

Just wanted to say I absolutely love this mod! It's just what I've been looking for! I hope the mod returns soon and that everything is well! Thank you!
In reply to NovaEverbright:
As the mod author's sibling, I can answer a few of the questions that have piled up. The mod author has been on hiatus, yes. He may return fairly soon, in a matter of a few weeks or months. I do not know if he intends to update to 1.12, but I do intend to ask him to in person. ArisenAnew came across an idea I intend to suggest - that is, linking the tent to the player
Yet another person wondering about a 1.12 version! I loved this mod and I miss it.
In reply to katubug:
Version 1.12.2 MC? :'( such a good mod
Any chance of a 1.12.2 version?
maybe add a component where you enter the tent and your spawnpoint in the current dimension is set to just in front of the tent door.
Can we get a 1.12 version? I want to make a modpack with it. Maybe add in an auto builder item?
Could you port it to 1.11.2?
1.11.2?
Since Sky01 seems to be on a hiatus from Minecraft, could some one have a look at reviving this mod? I know nothing about Java but this is open source, right?
How can I let other players into my tent? I have tried with 3 different people and they cannot get in. No error thrown or crash happened.
Any plans on updating this further?
There seems to be a bug. When you die in a Tent, you respawn in the void and you are stuck forever.
The "Respawn in Tent dim" is set to false but it happens anyway.
OMG!! Been looking for a way to transport my base and since Compact Machine have been left at mc 1.7.10 I was lost.
This mod makes the perfect replacement! It doesn't have pipes compatibility, nor it's a one cube tent but, woah. Movable bases. Awesome, keep going! Don't you have a patreon?
In reply to Maxiride:
I was thinking... would it be possible to link the tents to the player?
I'll try to explain:
- Donald crafts a large bedouin tent and puts all his valuables in it. Later he dies in lava and his tent his destroyed. He craft an other large bedouin tent and is able to access again all his valuables, because the new tent links to the same coordinates in the tent dimension as the old one.
- Bill crafts a medium yurt and puts all his valuables in it. Later John kills him and steals the yurt.
Placing the yurt John is not able to access Bill's yurt, but insted he is teleported to a different medium yurt unique to John.
Bil can craft an other medium yurt and is able to access again all his valuables, because the new tent links to the same coordinates in the tent dimension as the old one.
This would solve 2 "problems ":
- players would not have access to infinite storage space simply by crafting more tents, but would be instead be limited to 1 tent per type.
- as it is now it's a bit too easy to steal tents in multiplayer environment.
Just trowing my ideas around :p
I really like this mod and the "nomad playstyle" it enables.
I'm just having some difficulties balancing the use of tents in multiplayer :p
Stealing tents would suck but honestly I feel like that should remain a feature? Perhaps configurable. But I had a thought. How about, the first person to place a tent gets the item linked to their one tent and then no matter who places it after it's been stolen it's still linked to that tent.
Although.. That brings a problem. If the raider places the tent, and the original player tries to place a new one, will it cause a tear in space-time resulting in catastrophe, or will it forever lock the owner out of placing a tent unless the other one is picked up or broken?
Or.... This is a fun idea. Make it so if a player places a second tent the first one breaks and any unlucky raider (or visitor, you backstabber you :P) still inside falls into the void between worlds, their items configurably dropped at the location of the old tent or lost forever. Adds a risk to raiding beyond the initial pvp. If you take too long you'll end up dying. Unless the original owner has placed a new tent already, causing the old one to be unusable. Perhaps if the raider tries to place it, it'll collapse in on itself with no contents to fill the void, and simply disappear? But this is only if the owner has a new tent placed at the time, so if you catch them in motion the tent may still be raided, which still brings the risk of them placing theirs while you're inside, casting you into the void.
Quick thought, instead of killing the person inside, they could simply be expelled from the tent, perhaps taking some 'fall' damage, so if they're not at full health there's still a possibility of death, making it a more risky idea to raid immediately after stealing the tent, had they sustained significant damage in the fight. Or, make their gateway disappear, allowing them to be fought by the owner or allowing them to escape through the new door placed by said owner, leaving them in an unfamiliar (and perhaps hostile) location.
Alternatively, it may make a tent a portal, causing tents placed on the same user's channel to form a door into the tent, which would mean you'd have to instead enter your tent and fight off the raider to reclaim that gateway. Which could also be fun, but might not be the most balanced solution, as one could place tents as a portal network instead of their intended purpose.. And of course if this is done, the tents should be limited to 2-4 doors internally, or else it may look odd. Ooh, maybe make it so you can only exit through the door you've entered. That would prevent teleportation while still allowing this idea to work. However it would also allow each player to retreat from the tent unable to be followed, so that is to be considered..
Ooh, if the portal tent thing is done, you can make a tent maze, with the assistance of other players. (as the portals should be limited to 2-4 doors, as I said, and only 4 is not very maze-like.)
But anyway I suppose it's likely nobody cares about all this rambling about ideas for a mod I've never even played with. :P (I'm already on 1.11.2 since I wanted to try the latest Roots & Embers. On that note, I wonder when or if this will be updated.. Or, is there an alternative? I must investigate that possibility..)
